For many industry veterans the lead time cycles that the electronics components industry goes through comes as no surprise. However in recent years as leading manufacturers mothballed fabrication facilities anticipating a slowdown in worldwide demand, the industry saw a dramatic increase in the number of counterfeit components flooding onto the market.
With significantly increasing component intelligence and the availability of low cost manufacturing capacity the source of much of the counterfeit product is the developing economies in the Far East.
These components can be what we would class as “B” grade products that may have failed manufacturer testing in some way and as such has found their way to market via dealer networks, or they may be high quality counterfeit parts manufactured specifically to mimic a higher value part and produced in dedicated counterfeit facilities.
With the current extended lead times for components and the desire of end customers to keep lower stock of finished products, OEMs and their CEM partners are often exposed to potential counterfeit products when trying to support their clients build requirements.
Our aim is to reduce the risk of counterfeit components getting onto our customers PCB’s. With this in mind Diamond has invested in its own in house testing equipment/procedures for all imported parts and relationships with external test houses in the Far East who are able to undertake a vast range of parameter testing depending on a customer’s requirements.
